Merely having the design of models completed is insufficient to take them into production as intended. To truly prepare the models for production, it's imperative to consider all stages, including polishing and finishing.

Even with delicate and professional tools at our disposal, our efforts often prove futile in reaching certain areas and achieving a flawless finish. This is particularly true for tight crevices and intricate inner regions, where endeavors almost inevitably fall short. Undertaking work in nail crevices and inner regions is nearly impossible.

It’s crucial to comprehend these areas during the design process and tailor the design accordingly. These zones should not be augmented with additional supports. Careful consideration must be given to the correct growth orientation to avoid the telltale signs of layering inherent to 3D printing.

Abstaining from adding supports to these challenging-to-reach areas and evading the visibility of layer lines led us to contemplate the appropriate growth angle, such as an upward-facing 60-degree angle. This orientation yields considerable advantages across all operational angles.

Furthermore, positioning the model at a 60-degree angle along the Z-axis will uniquely enhance the outcomes achieved."

A properly oriented model will minimize layer lines and effectively eliminate visible lines after casting. Consequently, the processes of smoothing and polishing will be streamlined.

To visualize this concept, let's consider the model shared below.

 

 

There are multiple stone settings present, closely positioned to each other. Achieving a smooth surface between these settings using any smoothing tool is unfeasible. Similarly, even the sandblasting process might not be sufficient.

Hence, when orienting the model, it's essential to ensure that no support is applied to that area. Simultaneously, considering the machine’s characteristics and applying the appropriate anti-aliasing, we need to attain a print that doesn't reveal layer lines between the stone settings.

In essence, the objective is to achieve a print where the gaps between the stone settings are free from layer lines while comprehending the characteristics of our chosen machine.
